Carrick Rugby Club
Carrick RFC offers access to rugby across the rural communities of the Carrick region to those aged 5 years through to adult teams. We are a grass-roots, community club with a truly inclusive ethos. We endeavour to ensure that rugby is accessible to our entire community, especially given the social, financial, and geographical disadvantage that many from the wider community of Carrick face. Our list of community projects is ever-expanding, and it includes the facilitation of free holiday camps with food for all participants, free transport to youth club sessions and reduced or free memberships where required.
Linking with the South Ayrshire Active Schools team the club has delivered fun sessions across all local primary, ASN and secondary schools in the region (over 700 young people this year). The club and its vast network of dedicated volunteers supports regular extra-curricular delivery and promotes sports pathways for boys and girls all the way to seniors, with a large percentage of local young people transitioning to play with the club itself.
The 1-2-1 Support for Disengaged Pupils project uses rugby as a tool to re-engage pupils who struggle to engage with school. In addition, we also run the Friday Night Diversionary Rugby project, utilising rugby as a means of combatting anti-social behaviour in the community. Free Friday evening rugby is delivered at Carrick Academy for all young people 11-18 years old. Over 60 young people attend this training session weekly. The club provides free transport, supporting young people from rural communities to attend. A community Ruck and Roast Chatty Space also runs along side Diversionary Rugby, where members of the wider community are welcome to pop in to warm up with a cuppa and a chat.
